"Even the light of hope shines black"
Yuji Itadori awakens upon landing a Black Flash in the latest chapter of
Jujutsu Kaisen!! This is huge turn of events, having now opened a door of possibilities. How will an now-amped Yuji fair against Ryomen Sukuna and is it enough to snuff him out?
Talking Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 256
The chapter opens with our beloved Blue-Eyed King going over the mechanics of Black Flash—A distortion in space that arises when a sorcerer applies cursed energy within 0.000001 seconds of a physical blow.
Further explanation
Gojo says that irregardless of the Six-Eyes or his efficiency in cursed energy, he cannot perform a Black Flash at will. As readers, you may think he could simply because he’s Satoru Gojo, but that isn’t the case. There are a number of factors in the application that all need the blend. And need to applied precisely.
Ultimately, Gojo says that it boils down to luck, even for a skilled sorcerer like Gojo. Nanami is stated to have held the record of performing the most consecutive Black Flashes. Not long after, he was surpassed by Yuji.
Gojo usually wraps up his battles much quicker so there’s not enough time to hit them back to back.
SUKUNA LANDS ANOTHER BLACK FLASH
Everyone shows their concern for what’s to come. Yuji wonders if Sukuna has regained the output of his reversed cursed energy similar to Gojo.
Yuji, Maki, and Choso head directly for Sukuna with Itadori trapping him with a railing. Of course this isn’t enough to hold him down, but Choso shoots a piercing blood at point-blank range. Sukuna dodges this. Figured as much. He really shows off his speed from time to time.
Probably one of the coolest parts of the chapter is when Maki and Sukuna use the air as footing. Sukuna has done this before in his battle with Yorozu and most certainly while fighting Gojo.
Look at absolutely psychotic face *insert crying emoji*
Sukuna approaches Maki with so much vigor, it’s actually insane. Her very existence is thrilling for him. So much so, that he ends up hitting her with yet ANOTHER Black Flash.
Choso sets off a supernova, but Sukun appears right behind him, throwing him and landing a FOURTH Black Flash. I was in awe during my initial read. I started to question if Gojo was wrong about it being based on luck because ain’t no way Sukuna is doing all this.
However, Choso softens the damage by using blood as armor. He’s really that guy. I cannot describe just how geeked I was seeing that.
Upon Choso tanking Black Flash, he holds Sukuna long enough for Yuji to strike. Love to see it. Together, the brothers are moving mountains.
Either way, Choso says regardless of how much power Sukuna regains through Black Flash, any attack he receives from Yuji will be detrimental and continue to decrease both his CE output and control over the body.
Also, it appears that Sukuna loses an arm in this exchange.
Larue and Miguel
Honestly, not shocked that Miguel’s immediate reaction is to retreat. Totally valid.
Larue on the other hand, came in absolute clutch by forcibly distracting Sukuna so Yuji can land a Black Flash.
Gege finally remembered who the MC was. Now what his awakening could mean is totally up in the air, but LOOK at HIS EYES. Strikingly similar to Sukuna’s pupils of the same pattern.

Personal Commentary | Rating: 9.8/10
Black Flash is already strong on its own, coupled with Yuji’s ability to affect the soul…I could only be impressed with my G.O.A.T.
Despite pulling it off, I wonder what Sukuna will do? What if this is ultimately forces him to begin the Merger. I’d be sick beyond repair.
Since Gojo, they’ve been chipping away at Sukuna bit by bit. With arguably more than half of his cursed energy depleted, he’s having trouble healing, suffers from soul damage, and his hold on Megumi has waned. Although many (including myself) have been fatigued by “the cycle,” it was necessary in the grand scheme.
Miguel a real one for getting up out of there. He’ll go back to Africa and say he fought the strongest sorcerer and made it out alive. He’s just too real.
From here on out, Yuji “Left Right Goodnight” Itadori hand’s will be deadly and whatever this awakening entails, I’m all ready for it.
I hope Gege explains the reason behind Yuji's sudden eye change, which bears a strong resemblance to Sukuna's. I suspect it's related to Yuji once basking in Sukuna's cursed energy as a vessel. In chapter 216, he was free of that curse, but full of rage. So there might be a correlation that is soon to be revealed.
All I know is Yuji vs. Sukuna is going to be generational.
